Pato aims to remain at AC Milan

Alexandre PatoAlexandre Pato has stated that he is determined to fulfil his contract with AC Milan amid interest from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old shocked Rossoneri officials when he admitted last week that he intended to speak to Carlo Ancelotti, the new Chelsea boss, before deciding whether his long term future lies at the San Siro.

But the Brazil international has now backtracked by seemingly excluding the possibility of a move to the Premier League.

"I am happy to stay at Milan," Pato told journalists after Brazil's 4-3 win over Egypt in the Confederations Cup on Monday.

"I do not care what you say. I have a contract with Milan, which I want to respect.

"I want to win everything with Milan."

Kaka’s signing distorts transfer market

foto ricardo kaka pictureSo all the speculation and rumours were true and Kaka finally heads out of Italy and Serie A club AC Milan into the promised land at Real Madrid of Spain’s La Liga. The transfer fee of a reported world record 59 million English pounds is of course a ridiculous amount of money and to me, again shows the need for some type of salary cap system in football, like most of the major sports in North America have.

In football though, I think the salary cap might actually serve a different purpose as it would be a way for the clubs to save them from doing damage to themselves and going further into debt. Right now, there is just too much money owed in football and a hell of a lot of mismanagement going on.

Look at Valencia, in Spain, it’s rumoured they are in debt by about a billion American dollars. In fact, check out the books on most major teams and you’ll find most of them are in financial trouble. But it’s their own fault really. They spend asinine amounts of money on so-called star players who are nothing more than above average once they get out on the pitch. I mean Kaka, come on, do you really think the 27-year-old midfielder is going to make that much of a difference to Real Madrid? He’s just not as good as everybody thinks he is.

Many teams dish out the cash for specific players just to keep their opponents from getting their hands on them, and then sit them on the bench for half the season. In fact, there are way too many players being bought for a lot of money in football who don’t play enough to justify the transfer fees.

If these sky-high transfer fees and salaries continue, more and more teams are going to go into debt. And when a team goes into debt…you guessed it…they have to sell off their top wage-earning players. That’s why you may see Valencia unload David Silva, and David Villa this summer. So basically, it just becomes a vicious circle and you guessed right again, it’s the fans who get screwed by rising prices on tickets, team kits, souvenirs, and other types of memorabilia.

According to AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani, the club agreed to sell the Kaka for “solely economic” reasons. “Milan can not go on losing $100 million a year. Kaka has behaved very professionally with us, he has never asked for his deal to be revised or his contract extended. He has been here six years and won everything there is to win. But we can’t afford to miss out on $100 million,” he told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. But if that’s the case, then why were offers from English Premier League Clubs Chelsea, and Manchester City turned down?

Galliani said there was no chance of Chelsea — who appointed former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti as manager last week - of beating Real Madrid for Kaka’s signature. An agreement with Chelsea could not exist,” he said. “Kaka goes to Real or he remains at Milan. That is his will and we are doing everything in complete agreement.”

If this is the case, then it’s not 100 per cent true that this deal is for the money only. It appears to me that Kaka is dictating where he is sold to even though he has said he agreed to the move to help out Milan financially. However, he could have made more money for the team if he was willing to play in England and hook up with Manchester City earlier in the year. Kaka was under contract with Milan, not the other way around. It should have been the club deciding to do what’s best for the team, not the undividual.

Real Madrid probably aren’t finished their little spending spree yet and may still attempt to lure some more high priced help to the Spanish capital. But all they are really succeeding in doing is distorting the value of the transfer market by paying exorbitant fees for players who are nowhere as good as the money suggests.

BEING PAOLO MALDINI

I am and will always remain a Milan fan. For the time being my future will be the management of my family. THE DECLARATIONS OF PAOLO MALDINI DURING THE PRESS CONFERENCE.

Hereunder the declarations of Paolo Maldini during the press conference which was held today at San Siro.

MILAN – “The last match in Florence was nice to reach the third place and from a personal level, what happened at the Franchi was an honour to have received the affection from the fans and from my team-mates.

“I am and will always remain a Rossonero fan, sincerely this is an huge chance. Kaka is the first player of a certain level to be sold, in the past such an idea was never taken into consideration. He’s one of the five best players in the world, just like Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. This decision was taken badly by my team-mates and the fans.

“Looking at the accounts is logical, but it’s also logical to fix reachable objectives, thinking of winning the Champions League without Kaka is a utopian objective. There is an important change, but I have the hope that this team remains always at the top. The difficulties of the transfer market are in choosing the players who allow you to make the quality jump, the purchasing power of Italian football changed, and the teams who have the strong players are holding on to them. As a player, when Baresi quit, I felt almost lost, I was missing a morale and physical support, I was seeing a black future, but then the club worked well and everything started again. We had many farewells and this team always started again greatly with bigger objectives. Milan’s story goes on. The investments of the Italian teams are not the same as the English or Spanish ones, we have teams who play well at football and to survive they must look at the balance and less at the game. Milan had success because to win n Europe you don’t need to be physically strong, but you must impose the game.

“Ronaldinho will have many responsibilities for next season, last year he was not the real leader and this responsibility can do him well. I don’t know the market strategies of Milan. Our team with two or three retouches could have been great, losing Kaka we must aim on other players and we must see what team will be set for July 6 at Milanello and put in the hands of Leonardo. Even he will have to test himself, it’s a bet and Milan won them in the past, the hope is that even this time it can reach a good result.

“I believe the enthusiasm is fundamental to arrive to certain results, I don’t think that the Milan transfer market is over, it has just started. Pirlo? I think it’s too early to consider him a player of a certain age since he’s only 30 years old, I don’t know the details and I don’t know the club’s thought, I think that before leaving Milan he will think about it not 10 times, but at least 100 times. I don’t think that there is a soap opera like with Kaka for Pato, he’s 19-years-old, has an extraordinary talent and so Pato must remain here.

“It’s important to have a Youth Sector with a club’s line to pull out important players. There will be Filippo Galli who I consider a capable person. We started late but the results will be seen in three or five years.

“I don’t know who will be the Milan captain, the idea could have been that it was Ambrosini due to the rules we have always given ourselves, but the choice could also be taken by the coach. Everything will depend from the management of Leonardo, I don’t see it as a big problem.

“Berlusconi said some things which I agree with regards to what happened on Sunday during Milan-Roma. The club is not identifiable in just one person, Milan are the fans, the players and the directors. Berlusconi’s words put me at ease. He said things I would have liked to hear after the Roma game. With regards to the response announcement of Galliani, maybe he took it personally, but I didn’t want to put it personally. Guardiola’s gesture after the final in Rome was very nice: him winning the Champions League and a minute later he thinks about me…no I will not go to Barcelona, even though the thing pleased me a lot. The dedication arrived even though I only spoke to Guardiola two or three times as an opponent because some game, I'm not his friend, therefore it was all dictated by the sentiment and the heart. Barcelona arrived in Italy on Monday, they saw what happened the previous Sunday at San Siro and there were shocked. Milan-Roma and the banners? I felt bad at first, but going back home, after 200 people came to celebrate me, what remained mostly in my head was the full stadium with all those scarves exposed to the sky for me. It was a confirmation of the fact that what I had I deserve it on the pitch and I never asked for anything to anyone, despite having an important surname. What has been said about my name when I was a small kid hurt me, but it helped me to grow. I don’t think that Berlusconi has any intention to sell, I think that he will continue. In the past there have been moments of refounding with many players who stop, there have been minor objectives before always returning to great targets.

“My future? It’s the management of my family life, I did not make any commitments with anyone, I received some offers from my historical sponsors. From Milan nothing, but there’s time, it doesn’t mean that a great player can be a great director, but I know this environment well. I wouldn’t like to put just my face, the youth sector was offered to me, but it's not my aspiration and I think that they must be people who have a certain experience and I don't have.

“I’m serene and happy to have fulfilled myself in the profession I love and as a person. I’m prudent on the future, even though there’s a small question mark right now. I never thought about changing shirt during my career due to my faithfulness to these colours, and this for a young player like Santon could be a very nice story. The players at times are forced to leave. I think that I will realize this when the teams will be during their training camp in mid-July. If I had listened to my children, I should have gone forward for five or six more years. They were very attached to Ricky for his technical qualities and he has a strange effect on the children. Even they will not have any difficulty to remain always Milanisti.

“It was a very beautiful last year. I played a sport I love in a wonderful environment, nothing could scratch and touch what I did in the past, a year without winning cannot damage my career. The best moment of my career is not only one, but two or three at the fullest of my capacity. I remember the first and second year of Capello, the year with Zaccheroni, even with Ancelotti in 2003 and 2004, but also with Sacchi, because I formed myself and reached the national team. The passion was at the base of everything, trying to always improve, in the long run it became a challenge with myself. In football you grow from the human level, you learn the respect towards others, at 16 years of age I used to work in a world of adults and it was a growth which brought me to be a respected person, the real spring is the passion for the sport. I had many positive examples and from them I tried to learn, the important thing is the family and I had close to me who managed me and gave an education. With Milan I have no regrets. The defeats are very painful, but are part of the game. After 4 World Cups with the national team, I would have wanted to win something, I cannot deny that they were 15 very beautiful years, with a bit more of luck I might have managed to win what the Italian national team won when I stopped.

“On the rapport with the fans of the Curva I think that if I have to go to dinner with them to earn a banner, I ask myself what sense it has, if they do it without me going to dinner it means that I did well what I’m paid for. If a certain detachment is kept, certain actions that they do can be criticized, it’s a more direct rapport.

“With regards to Carlo Ancelotti, I think that in England he will have to adapt to a more physical football, he will need to learn English well. Leonardo is a bet and usually the president won these bets, bringing a charge of innovation and youth is not bad. It’s a courageous choice, but it’s not bad. The coach is important, he must manage the group and is there that the wins are prepared and is also important for the management of the dressing room during the year. There are coaches who give an unmistakable footprint to their squads.”

6 YEARS WITH RICKY

Between what Milan gave and what Ricky gave there will always be a mountain of life and of football, of sentiments and goals. Only Milan, the Milanisti and Kaká know what it means to have been together.

MILAN - Distances don't count. Milan, the Milan fans and Ricky will always hold each other by the hand. The one controlling the results of the other, and viceversa. Today it went well, but what did Milan do? Kaká will ask himself that, and so will we. Did Ricky score? Is everything alright Ricky? Children, Kaká's biggest fans, must know that nothing is finished today. The smiles, the goals, and the words of Kaká will remain. They will be a vivid and indelible memory for always in the Rossoneri's memory, important parts of the club's history. And Kaká will always go on the pitch with a piece of Milan inside him. The teachings, the style, the displays of affection from Milan and its people will never let Kaká go, independently of his shirt's color.

The Milan fans had marked 22 April as an important day in which to remember to congratulate Kaká for his birthday (on 22 April 2004, his birthday celebrated in Milan, the Via Turati club had brought a gigantic cake to his home), they had adopted little Luca Leite, they had dedicated their hearts to Ricky. All of this will remain, aside from where the inevitable decisions made by a club that's been having exceptional success for 23 years take. In the 110 years of history Milan will celebrate in december, the 6 years with Ricky will always be remembered fondly.

AT MILAN TO WIN MORE

Daniele Bonera renewed his contract until 2013, and expressed all of his satisfaction. The Rossoneri's defender, always a Milan fan, launched a message to the fans: "This club still has a lot of will to win."

MILAN - A few hours after the contract renewal which will tie Danie Bonera to Milan until 2013, the Rossoneri's defender spoke yesterday through the phone with Milan Channel, expressing his entire satisfaction:

"I'm very happy because this contract renewal arrived in a delicate and difficult moment for me. I never played for almost five months and the club's will is that of extending the contract which for me is a great sign of trust which puses me to have more motivations and responsibilities."

"Now I'm fine"
Now I feel fine. This morning a cycle of training sessions ended, but during the holidays I will continue to work with a trainer ahead of the July 6 training camp. The objective is that of returning to perfect condition and not to have a tough impact with the preparation.

"Milan still has a lot of enthusiasm"
These are particular hours for the Milan fans and I understand. However, I can easily calm all the fans down by saying that the will to do well, which this club has, was never lost. We spoke about the future of this team and my position on the pitch. With the tactical idea of our new coach which sees more push on the wings, I will be seen as a central defender. In any case, I give all of my availability to play where I would be requested to play. Kaka? I consider him still a team-mate, he's a symbol and for certain verses the perfect companion. He's a great person, never above lines. Right now the club is making some evaluations which I don't have any say in, therefore I cannot express judgements."

"Ancelotti is part of the Milan history"
At Florence it was really tough to bid farewell to our coach. With Carlo Ancelotti we had a great rapport, but in any case he will always be part of Milan's history. The coach left a great sign, and what a sign!"

RATIONALITY AND EMOTION

Silvio Berlusconi speaks: 'Me and Kaká will speak on Monday. Not everything has been decided yet, inside of me I still hope for a surprise. But football has never been centered on this or that player.'

MILAN - Silvio Berlusconi speaks. The Milan president talked about the current topics at Milan: here are his main declarations of today to Mediaset's microphones.

"Football should be rationality and emotion. You can't take a decision only with reasoning, also because as you know I follow Erasmus of Rotterdam who said that the most right decisions are not the ones that come from intelligence, but those that come from a kind of visionary madness.'

'The Kaká case is quite complicated. Reason goes in one direction, sentiment goes the other way. Then there's Kaká's interest, as with Shevchenko, who was and still is a good friend of mine. When they offered him a bigger fee, I decided I could not oppose myself. We could not raise his salary the way Chelsea would with their offer, because by law we would have had to raise the salaries of all our players and this would have brought Milan to suffer heavy losses or to go bankrupt.
Already today we presented a balance with heavy losses over the years, because petrol dollars have entered football and some Russian personalities too. Going on like this there won't be a chance to have balanced accounts. We have to say stop to craziness and work by staying careful of the balances. We will reason on this. If aside from this, Kaká made it clear that they would pay him better we would leave it up to him. Me and Kaká have made an appointment for a long phone call on Monday. Not everything has been decided yet, inside of me I still hope for a surprise. Inside of me I hope.

'I don't want to hear talk of a redimensioned Milan, which is still the most winning club in the world. It's unthinkable that we would have to give up on our mission of being in command of the pitch and of the football. The mission will not change. Football has never been centered on this or that player. There are many good players. Milan will have to look for a true striker who would make us improve in quality going forward. I won't name names, or else the prices will increase...'

'Only Kaká is currently uncertain of staying, Pato, Seedorf and Pirlo are unsellable. We will renew Ambrosini's contract and he'll be our captain.'

'Ancelotti? There are cycles, then you have to change. There are some seasons where you have to say 'stop' and change. Leonardo will repeat the journey of Fabio Capello. I had seen excellent qualities in Capello as a manager, as a man and as a motivator. We made him start as a manager, then he went to coach youths, and then in the end, when we felt he was ready, we made him the coach, with the results we all know. The new coach will bring new ambition and excitement to Milan, we will aim for new targets with him. Carlo Ancelotti will do fine at Chelsea.'

'I told Cristiano Ronaldo that I would like to see him as a Rossonero and he looked at me... Who doesn't like Milan? All players would like to come to Milan.'

MORE CONCRETE

Despite their important victory, the Rossoneri analyzed the match objectively: 'Today's victory was important, but we have to be more concrete close to the goal.' - THE DECLARATIONS -

(on the photo: KAKÁ'S JOY AFTER HIS GOAL IN MILAN-CATANIA 1-0)

MILAN - Here are the declarations made by the Rossoneri after Milan-Catania 1-0:

RICKY KAKA'
"Today's match was important, we played well and earned three important points. We only should have scored in the first half after the many chances we created. We suffered a bit near the end, the problem is that we should be more concrete close to the goal. Also Bizzarri made some excellent saves.

During my press conference last week I made some declarations which were certainly not intended to create unease within the team. My team mates and I know that if I have to make a sacrifice for the team I'll be the first one to do it and accept it. I simply said that I could be more useful to the team if I play closer to the goal, but if it's necessary I can also be the fourth man in midfield without any problem.
I hope that in the future my words are accepted in a positive way, when I talk I always put the team's good before mine, I never just think about myself.

Sunday night the match against Juventus will be very difficult, in particular without Gattuso who is a fundamental player for us. Let's hope we get back some players who can replace him well."

LUCA ANTONINI:
"Catania certainly play good football, but Milan had to get these important points. We missed a few chances, their goalkeeper also did well on a few balls, but the victory was important and it came.

I am happy about the coach giving me trust by putting me on the pitch and I always try to use every chance I get.

On Sunday we will go to Turin aware of our strength, it will be a nice match and we want to win it. Unfortunately we won't have Gattuso, but there are other players who can replace him."

MILAN RAISE THEIR HEADS AGAIN

Milan find back the victory in the league. They keep up with Inter and can think exclusively about Sunday night's match against Juventus. At San Siro it was the seventh consecutive victory.

(on the photo: KAKÁ IN ACTION DURING MILAN-CATANIA)

MILAN - Milan had eight injured players going into the match, but Carlo Ancelotti miraculously recovered Pippo Inzaghi who was able to come on the bench after being hit by the flu. Milan had 4 defenders, with Kaladze and Maldini in the middle, 3 in midfield, with Gattuso, Emerson and Flamini, with Kaká behind Pato and Sheva (for the first time from the first minute at San Siro this season). Catania, who were without suspended coach Walter Zenga, with assistant coach Giuseppe Irrera on the bench, responds with 3 defenders, 5 midfielders, a playmaker and a striker.

At the start, there were a couple of scares as both Paolo Maldini and Gennaro Gattuso suffered injuries, but both of them were able to continue. The captain felt a pain to his arm after a clash with an opponent, while Rino hurt his knee.
In the first 15 minutes Milan and Catania played at a good rhythm. The visitors came close to scoring with a shot by Mascara in the 13th minute, which hit the post of Abbiati's goal. At the other end Kaká let off one of his classic shots which caused some trouble to Bizzarri, who deflected the ball out for a corner. Also Sheva did well, coming close with a header and making a great run which thrilled the stadium. Kaká played all across the pitch, Catania did not play as defensively as usual. This way the Rossoneri managed to come close through Sheva (18'), Kakà (22'), and Pato (23'), but found a spectacular and concrete Bizzarri on their way. Just before the break came perhaps the biggest chance of the match. Kaká made a run towards the area from a central position and found Sheva on the right side of the area. The Ukrainian went past a man, then put the ball in the middle a few inches away from the goal line, but no one manages to get the ball in. The first half finished 0-0.

The second half opened with a change. After a few moments, in fact, Emerson came off with a problem to his knee, and was replaced by Favalli. Also the tactical situation changed: Favalli went in defence at left back, Jankulovski in midfield.
Milan quickly created a couple of chances, first with Kaká and then with Jankulovski. Kaká went past a man in the penalty area and tried another of his curling shots, which goes wide. The Czech player tried to move in from the left and fired a left footed shot, which also went wide. The same fate fell to a similar shot by Zambrotta a few moments later.
In the 18th minute, a free kick by Pato went close to going in. He hit a marvellous shot towards the crossbar but Bizzarri outdid himself. On the corner kick came the GOAL! Pato took the corner, Kaká headed the ball and sent it in. After the goal there was a real onslaught by Milan. First Pato, then Flamini scared Bizzarri. The Brazilian made a run inside the area, and was stopped by a deflection for a corner. The Frenchman, meanwhile, saw a powerful shot from outside the area deflected out.
Abbiati was first tested in the 75th minute, when he did brilliantly to dive low to his left to keep out a header by Mascara, who was left all alone in the area. Milan's answer came with another shot by Flamini two minutes later. A bad blow, however, came after the half hour mark. Rino Gattuso received a yellow card and will be suspended for next week's match against Juventus.
Before the end Kaká tried again, for the third time, with his classic curling shot, which went just over the crossbar.
Nothing more happens before the end of the match, when the final whistle came and Milan could breathe again and hold on to the three points.
